Information Dissemination, Knowledge Transfer, and Education

One of the missions of OALS is to collect, organize, and disseminate data and information about the arid lands of the world. Extending the knowledge gained through our various research initiatives, we actively engage in transferring lessons learned to meet people's real life needs. A combination of websites, interactive learning tools, and educational and extension programming target audiences throughout the world who are interested in arid lands issues. This includes those who use and manage drylands for their livelihood, those who appreciate them for recreational purposes, and those drawn to them for their aesthetic value. Other significant clientele are students, educators, and policy-makers. In support of the formal educational mission of the university, OALS integrates a large number of undergraduate and graduate students into its research and educational activities. It also addresses formal educational needs through its administration of the Arid Lands Resource Sciences interdisciplinary doctoral program.
